It's all about Teamwork - A unique and successful project that ensures the raw material supply of the factory by actively supporting and promoting the local pineapple smallholders.

Ananas Block-Farmen

How it works

Each block farm consists of ten different "blocks", hence the name. Each "block" corresponds to an acre, or about half a hectare of land, which is farmed by one farmer. The block farms bring pineapple farmers together, facilitate the exchange of knowledge and materials, and enable sustainable agriculture. This creates new jobs, benefits the environment, the farmers and therefore the quality of the fruit and ensures the raw material for our factory.

A start-up for small farmers

HPW offers a start-up package to young farmers. This pre-finances and provides tools for farmland preparation, plant material and inputs. Through the income from the harvests, the small pre-financing loans are repaid by the farmers on an ongoing basis. Not only in the start-up phase, but also afterwards, the smallholders receive regular technical support from our team of agronomists. This takes place either directly in the field or in the form of further training courses in the HPW Fresh & Dry training rooms.

Our success

Our commitment to this innovative and unique concept has paid off. After starting with the first block farm in 2016, HPW now supports ten block farms - three of which are organic - with 100 farmers on 100 acres of land. In addition, there are another 14 pineapple producer cooperatives, four of which are certified organic. All farms and cooperatives together provide HPW Fresh & Dry with over 4,100 tons of premium quality fresh pineapple annually. Our project is supported by the German Investment and Development Corporation and IDH - "the sustainable trade initiative".
