Shaping tomorrows work force
HPW has officially launched its first TVET training programme under the theme Building Tomorrow's Workforce Today. The initiative marks a new chapter in technical and vocational education and training in Ghana.
For the first time, the concept of structured apprenticeship programmes - a long-established system in Europe - is being introduced in Ghana's agricultural and food sector. The programme combines theoretical learning in the classroom directly with practical training in HPW's production environment. It offers young people the opportunity to acquire practical skills, gain real work experience and lay the professional foundations for long-term careers in the industry.
The programme is based on three key objectives:
- To provide access to young talent through hands-on training that combines education with real work experience.
-
To emphasise the crucial role of technical and vocational skills for industrial growth, competitiveness and national development.
-
To strengthen co-operation between universities, industry and development partners in building a skilled, future-oriented workforce.
By introducing this training model, HPW is bridging the gap between education and employment and creating a direct pathway for young Ghanaians into the labour market. The programme benefits not only the participants, but also local industries and communities by creating a more skilled and confident workforce.

From beneficiary to pioneer of change
The impact of this initiative is already being felt beyond HPW. One of the young men from the Chance for Children (CFC) TVET programme was selected for this highly competitive training in food processing. His journey - from being supported by CFC to joining HPW's training programme and preparing to become a trainer and change agent himself - is a powerful example of what this collaboration makes possible.
As CFC put it:
This is what happens when industry and social partners work side by side: We open real pathways to decent work, strengthen families and strengthen our communities and society as a whole.
The HPW-TVET training programme demonstrates how industry, education and social partnerships can create lasting opportunities for young people in Ghana. By investing in hands-on training today, HPW is actively building the workforce of tomorrow.
The future belongs to those who prepare for it today, and with this programme we are not just preparing for the future - we are actively shaping it.
